Reflective Revolution
In the swinging sixties there were some significant movements in fashion, the mini skirt, bikinis and bell bottom jeans were big hits but did you know that there was another textile revolution in the sixties?
Something functional with the potential to save lives; reflective fabrics were introduced to address the safety of track workers and were worn for high-visibility.
What we found surprising is that reflective materials are made from millions of tiny glass beads. These tiny glass beads are the exact source that allows a reflective fabric to illuminate and reflect light back at the source. This rather charming fact inspired the design of the MEAME brand emblem; which shows a visual graphic of light refracting within a glass bead.
Since the sixties reflective clothing has helped millions of people remain visible in low light conditions. Its appearance has barely changed however – plain and silver. Silver is pretty cool but not always appropriate for a city slick look.
For the MEAME collection we wanted a sophisticated and sleek reflective fabric. Unfortunately there wasn’t a fabric out there that met our needs so we decided to design and develop our own.
Working with a British mill we developed our exclusive MEAME reflective tweed incorporating the classic herringbone design with reflective technology to create the ultimate performance fabric. What’s impressive about this fabric is that in daylight you won’t notice the reflective but when needed in low light environments it will illuminate.
You will see the exclusive reflective fabric feature in the Maia blazer for women, Alpha blazer for men and Polaris cap.
Be safe and look the part with this modern day reflective!
